PRINCE WILLIAM SOUND — A small plane crash on Latouche Island Saturday morning left the aircraft heavily damaged, but the pilot escaped without injury.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers responded to the scene after receiving a report at 11:58 a.m. that a Super Cub aircraft had crashed into trees while attempting to land on a small airstrip. According to troopers, the pilot said strong winds forced the plane off course during the landing attempt.

The pilot declined medical attention at the scene.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been notified and is reviewing the incident.
