Pitching & Defense Push Pilots Past Peninsula

Author: Coach Dan Gensel |

Six, no-hit innings by Pilots starter Carter Young and a pair of “strike’em out, throw’em out” innings for the defense and the Anchorage Glacier Pilots hold the Peninsula Oilers scoreless for a 3-0 ABL victory on Sunday at Coral Seymour Memorial Park.

Pilots 3 – Oilers 0

In-spite-of a three-hit performance by Pilots pitchers, missed opportunities with men-on-base cost the Oilers in a 3-0 loss to the Pilots.  Twice the Oilers ended an inning with a batter striking out and a baserunner thrown-out at second base.  The game ended on a Pilots turning a double play.

Oilers starting pitcher Hayden Johns allowed only one run on three hits through six innings.  Reliever Mose Hayes pitcher three innings and allowed two runs in the seventh inning on a single to left field following a walk and two hit batters which loaded the bases.

The Oilers have three, much deserved, off-days before the Mat-Su Miners come to Oilers Park for a five-game series beginning Thursday, June 30th.

The Miners lead the ABL with a 14-4 league record; the Oilers stand at 5-9 in ABL play.

Follow the Oilers throughout the season on ESPN 1140AM, 96.9FM and streaming live at radiokenai.com with the Sweeney’s Pregame Show scheduled for 20 minutes before first pitch.
