April is National Autism Awareness Month and Soldotna will have its Alaska Walk for Autism Saturday, April 19 from 11 am to 2pm at the Soldotna Middle School.

We spoke with the walk’s coordinator, Jerri Braun, who said that there will be more than just walking.

Braun: “We’re doing just like a fishing pond, a fish bowl ping pong toss, tattoo art, a couple little things, oh and a cake walk.”

Braun said the walk will be held in the hallways and there will also be booths to provide information about autism from Hope Community Resources, Frontier Community Services, and others.

She added that as a parent of an autistic child she knows how important it is to have resources available.

Braun: “It’s very important to us to get the information out so people know what to look for, to know where to get services, what kind of services are available, what kind of different theories and different ways we all have found different ways to progress and try to become part of society.”

Registration is available at the event or click here for the registration form.
