Portage Pass Trail Head Area Closed To The Public

The Portage Pass Trailhead Road, O’Neil Creek Road, Portage Pass Trailhead, and the first ¼ mile of Portage Pass Trail are closed to both motorized and non-motorized uses.

Construction crews from Western Construction, LLC will be conducting clearing and grubbing operations along Portage Pass Trailhead Road and constructing a new parking lot in the location of Portage Pass Trailhead near the intersection of Portage Pass Trailhead Road and O’Neil Creek Road. Given the substantial nature of the work being performed and the fact that operating heavy equipment near vehicles, trail users, and other recreational users poses an obvious safety risk, it is necessary to close the two roads, trailhead, and a section of trail to the public while the construction project is ongoing.

Unregulated public access to this area while the project is underway poses a clear, immediate, and continuous risk to the health and safety of both forest users and construction workers.

Motorized and non-motorized closures begin at the intersection of Camp Road and O’Neil Creek Road and extend southwest on O’Neil Creek Road, approximately 575 feet to the junction of O’Neil Creek Road and Portage Pass Trailhead Road. The closures continue northwest the entire length of Portage Pass Trailhead Road, approximately 1000 feet, and include the entire parking area at Portage Pass Trailhead. The closures continue from Portage Pass Trailhead southwest on Portage Pass Trail for ¼ mile where the closures end.

Closures will continue through Oct. 18.
