An Alert posted by the National Weather Service warns of overnight lows near freezing Monday night in the Anchorage, Mat-Su, and Interior Kenai Peninsula Regions.
Residents of those areas are cautioned to bring potted plants indoors with the overnight ridge bringing low temperatures to low lying areas.
A spokesperson for the NWS told KSRM, “If you’re living in maybe like the Sterling Soldotna area, maybe if you have potted plants outside and you don’t want all that effort towards your horticulture going to waste. Already we are looking at potential return to slightly warmer conditions and rainy as well by Wednesday, but what we were really trying to say is take those precautions. And preserve any facilities you may have outside that may be affected by near freezing temperatures.”
The ridge and clear skies are, hopefully, only a brief dip as the NWS does predict a return to warmer temperatures.
According to the NWS, “The big pattern right now is a a series of lows just as everyone in South Central is unfortunately aware that we’ve had just kind of low after low move through our area and it does seem like that pattern may continue. It’s just we have a brief break between these two lows today and Wednesday where we got a little bit of a Ridge coming in that’s going to provide. The clearing necessary for some lower temperatures and clear skies on tomorrow.”
Additionally, those with mobile vehicles, like camper trailers, may want to consider winterizing their equipment with a potential freeze around the corner.
