A pair of losses in Anchorage on Saturday has the Post 20 Twins state tournament positioning in question.
The question is will the Twins play in the American Legion state tournament or the consolation Matson Invitational?
The Twins fell in a split doubleheader on Saturday to close out Post 20’s regular season for American Legion baseball. The Twins dropped an 11-1 decision to Wasilla and narrowly fell to Ketchikan 7-6.
Wasilla dominated Post 20 allowing only one hit and one run. Ketchikan rallied for a pair of seventh inning runs to pass the Twins for the conference victory.
Post 20’s regular season concludes with the Twins earning a 10-8 league record. The current standings find the Twins in 4th in the American Division with 48 points and Ketchikan in fifth with an 8-7 record, 39 points and three games to play (final game on Wednesday). According to Alaska Legion guidelines: Each team plays 18 games with the top three teams in each division (National and American) automatically qualifying to the state tournament. Two at-large spots are earned by the remaining teams with the most, earned points.
The top eight team advance to the ALB state tournament and the bottom eight teams will play in the Matson Invitational. Tournament games will be played at Mulcahy Stadium and Bartlett High School.
For now, the Twins will scoreboard watch as Ketchikan continues its swing through Southcentral.
