Some Soldotna post office customers received a letter dated November 23 notifying them that some of their mail had been held for an investigation and that wasn’t the only surprising part of the memo.
United States Postal Service spokeswoman Dawn Peppinger says the phone number for the Office of Inspector General who was handling the investigation, had a typo.
Peppinger: “We had a situation where some mail was held back for an investigation and unfortunately the phone number for the OIG was incorrect on the letter and on behalf of the Postal Service I sincerely apologize.”
A KSRM listener reported that the original phone number in the memo was to an “adult” phone hotline.
Peppinger says customers who got that first letter should have received a second corrected letter by now.
She was unable to comment on the investigation that originally prompted that first letter.
KSRM will continue to investigate the reason for the Postal Service’s investigation.
