The Homer Mariners and Kodiak Bears demonstrated why their programs are perennial powers in cross country running, both teams recording team and individual champions at the 2016 Nikiski Class Races held on the Nikiski Trails on Monday.
The Nikiski Class Races, divided into four classifications: freshman-sophomore girls, junior-senior girls, freshman-sophomore boys, and junior-senior boys, featured four races with each crowning individual champions.
Kodiak won both the junior-senior boys and freshman-sophomore girls races. Kodiak’s Keith Osowski posted the fastest time of the day at 17:15 for the older boys title. Kodiak’s Honey Rose Macatuno won the junior-senior girls division, also with the fastest girls time of 22:10.
Homer runners won both the junior-senior girls and freshman-sophomore boys races. Homer’s Dexter Lowe posted the fastest time in the freshman-sophomore boys race at 19:26.
Kenai’s Jaycie Calvert raced to the freshman-sophomore girls race title with a time of 22:21.
