Power has been restored to more than 4,100 Homer Electric Association members following a large power outage on Sunday afternoon.
HEA began initially receiving notifications and calls around 2:00 PM from a substantial number of its members claiming they were without power. Simultaneously, there was also and issue with the utility providers online outage reporting software, where the outage map was not indicating where there were areas without power. This resulted in even more phone calls to HEA, as people attempted to report outages not indicated on the online map.
Around 7:00 PM, Homer Electric reported that approximately 3,700 members were still without power, but that crews were making progress “despite these blustery winds.”
According to social media posts by HEA, the majority of the outages were caused by “trees outside the right-of-way.” Line crews worked late into the night restoring power and conducting repairs where necessary to get everyone’s power back on.
Power was finally restored to all members shortly before 2:00 AM. HEA expressed its gratitude to its members for their patience, as well as their line crews for the hard work in bad weather conditions.
