Across the nation, customers of Premera and connected insurers are checking their data banks after a “sophisticated” cyber attack.
Alex Stone of ABC News reports from Washington…
Stone: “As many as 11 million people could be affected by the security breach. Premera Blue Cross says it is sending out letters to everybody who could be impacted. The attackers may have gained access to member information – including names, birth dates, addresses, ID numbers, social security numbers, bank accounts, and even clinical data. Other Blue Cross/Blue Shield customers who got treatment in Washington or Alaska may have had their information stolen as well. The insurance company says it first discovered the cyber-attack on January 29th.
Premera is promising free credit monitoring for those who may have been affected. For more, visit: Premera Cyberattack.
