Division I college hockey, a dream for most young hockey players, turned into a reality for Soldotna’s Preston Weeks with the University of Alaska, Anchorage offering Weeks a non-scholarship contract to play for the Seawolves for the 2020-21 season.

Preston Weeks, a defenseman for the Kenai River Brown Bears, ended his fifth season with the Brown Bears in March with the NAHL canceling the remainder of the regular season, thus ending the five-year career as a Brown Bear for Weeks as Preston will age-out of junior hockey.

Preston set an NAHL league record for total games played having dressed for 233 games in five seasons of Brown Bears hockey.  The Kenai River Brown Bears were in third place in the Midwest Division of the NAHL when the season was suspended.  Kenai River missed the playoffs (top four teams in division) each of Preston’s five seasons.

Preston, age 21, will play for the Seawolves hockey program in 2020-21 with the details of financial aid to be determined.

Brown Bear teammate Logan Richie has signed to play for Division I St. Lawrence University.  Jack Quinn, Cody Moline and Connor Scahill have all signed to play Division III college hockey.
