Tonight the Soldotna City Council will meet at 6:00 pm.

A couple of topics on the agenda for tonight are an ordinance forming guidelines for the City of Soldotna’s procedures when citizen’s request public records and an ordinance regulating commercial vehicle traffic on certain residential streets.

City of Soldotna Mayor Nels Anderson explained the ordinance about commercial vehicle traffic primarily originated after heavy truck activity through residential Soldotna last summer.

Mayor Anderson: “Like in this case where we had repetitive gravel hauling down the same road with vehicle after vehicle after vehicle. People were worried about was that a safety issue for their children, completely apart from the fact that these were starting relatively early in the morning, it was pretty disruptive to the neighborhoods in terms of the sound that was created.”

The ordinance is designed to try to keep commercial vehicles on major roads instead of residential roads, however does not apply to utility vehicles or any vehicles that need to be in the areas for short periods of time for work or maintenance.
