Privacy Concerns Surface as Drones Top Christmas Lists Again

Technologies for unmanned aircraft systems, or drones, have gotten even better since last year and are once again topping Christmas lists nationwide.

 

Alaska’s legislative Task Force on Unmanned Aircraft Systems has released guidelines for drone users as a way to combat concerns over privacy.

“The focus of the federal government on regulation of airspace is on safety and it hasn’t really been on privacy. I think in the area of privacy there’s probably room for state governments to regulate on that.”

 

The guidelines are set to “provide informational aid and overview certain federal and state laws that may apply to drone/UAS operation”.

 

Those guidelines address the possible legal complications of flying drones above crowds, over personal property, and near roadways.

 

The Federal Aviation Administration plans to announce additional details of a recreational drone registration system later this month.
