Project Has Acquired Lion’s Share of Necessary Nikiski Property

The Alaska LNG Project is now the owner of 100 parcels of property in Nikiski, between North and South Miller Loop. Project representatives say that makes up nearly half the 1,000 acres they’ll need to build a LNG plant.

It’s been a difficult year for current and former land owners in the area…

Property Owners: “I guess I’d rather be a neighbor and put up with that than leave and give up. I feel like I’d be giving up on not only the previous generation, but the next generation.

“I’ve been here now ten years and I put my life, my heart, my soul into my place.

“All the memories, five daughters that I raised, my husband had Parkinson’s disease and took his last breaths here.”

Some searched for other property close by…

Property Owner: “We’ve gone and priced properties and they’ve driven the market so bad they’ve priced it way out of our price range.”

Now, with some uncertainty in the air, we touched base with Nikiski’s Speaker of the House Mike Chenault about the future of property prices. We asked if his district is likely to suffer a depression in property prices if the Project doesn’t come to the Peninsula…

Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “I don’t think so. I don’t think property prices have went up because they are looking at buying property. There’s only one area they’re looking at. I don’t think it would hurt the property price.”

Chenault earlier this week introduced legislation to prevent the State from pursuing alternate gasline projects until the AK LNG Project has made further progress.
