The 2023 Project Homeless Connect, providing services and assistance for the homeless and/or near homeless on the Central Kenai Peninsula, is scheduled for Tuesday, January 31st from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.  Similar Project Homeless Connect events will also be held in Homer and Anchor Point on January 31st.

Project Homeless Connect provides assistance and services including (but not limited to) housing information, personal care services, employment & career guidance and lunch and health care.

Public Relations Chair Josie Stuart discussed the Project’s timeline and transportation services available to clients.

” So they (participants/clients) don’t have to do much to prepare, they just have to show-up between the hours of nine (a.m.) and three (p.m.), the last intake will be done at 3:00 p.m..  We have transportation available to and from the event, so if they call the phone number (907-283-6000) we’ll get them hooked-up with our transportation system.  They’ll have a series of questions they’ll be asked and from those questions we’ll determine what their top priorities are and then they will be assisted in getting to their top priorities.  After that, any additional support that they need, they will be pointed in the right direction for that too.”

Stuart explained the many services available at Tuesday’s Project Homeless event.

“We’re going to have haircuts, which is always a huge one.  Our food pantry which is a second huge one including our lunch and breakfast service that we provide so there will be food throughout the day for folks.  Immunizations, we will be providing Covid and flu shots.  We do have some basic clothing including socks, hats, gloves and some cold weather clothing that will be available.  We’ll be having mental health services, assistance with housing, veterans services, employment services and pets services; pet food, collars and leases and stuff like that–we will not have veterinary services this year. So pretty much anything and everything a person needs to get their feet up underneath them; there will be a resource there, including for the first time the DMV.”

Transportation is available through Alaska Cab at 907-283-6000.
