Ravn Alaska Delivers Donuts To Kenai Middle School To Help Students Fundraise For Camp

Ravn Alaska is stepping up to help one school within the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District. More than 100 area students at Kenai Middle School are working to raise $145 each to attend sixth-grade camp in May. The students are selling Krispy Kreme donuts to reach that goal. Sixth grade camp is something every Kenai Middle School student looks forward to each year and, for the second year in a row, the hometown airline, Ravn Alaska is helping local students offset costs to fly in glazed donuts so that campers can get closer to their fundraising goals.

Tina Hanley , Managing Director of Commercial for Ravn Alaska told KSRM on Thursday:

This is our second year supporting the program. We shipped last year as well. It’s just an opportunity to give back to the community and really allow the youth in the area to attend summer camp. Sometimes in the summer, the ability to learn and move forward is kind of stunted, but this is a real opportunity to provide camp services. It’s just a worthwhile opportunity. Again, we’re just happy to be able to help out in the community and do what we can. There’s going to be a lot of people that are going to be full of sugar this afternoon. I think we shipped 1,100 pounds of donuts. That’s going to be a very hyper afternoon!”

Hanley speaks on the importance of community support:

It’s great to be a partner, not just a service provider. It’s important to have that relationship in place where we have the opportunity to help where we can whether it’d be with shipping or a donation. I think we’re also working with your station in the St. Jude fundraiser as well. It’s just an opportunity to help worthwhile causes.”

Students who meet their goals will travel to Victory Bible Camp in Sutton for three days and two nights. Activities include hiking to a fossil bed and around Matanuska Glacier, bug identification, first aid training, fire building and water testing.

The company says that they believe in strengthening and supporting the communities they serve. Hanley added that the Ravn Gives Back program and proceeds from the sale of Ravn’s Commemorative Tokns make giving efforts like this possible.
