Author: Jason Lee |

The National Weather Service has issued Red Flag Warnings for critical wildfire activity due to high winds, low relative humidities and dry surface burning conditions in grasses and other fine fuels which can easily ignite and spread rapidly out of control.

As a result of the Red Flag Warnings all small and large scale permitted burning has been suspended in the following areas beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, and will remain suspended until further notice:

  • Mat Su Area
  • McGrath/Southwest Area
  • Kenai-Kodiak Island Area

Individuals or business burning during a burn permit suspension, who fail to follow the requirements and conditions of a burn permit and/or cause a fire to escape maybe be cited and/or required to appear in court.
