Soldotna Police officers located a missing Homer teenager while following up on a REDDI report on Tuesday. Given that the missing person was a juvenile, details could not be provided by law enforcement regarding when the teen was initially reported missing.
The REDDI report was first sent to Soldotna Police shortly before 3:00 p.m. Tuesday and described a white 2004 Kia Spectra as driving erratically on the Sterling Highway and almost causing a collision. SPD officers responded and were able to locate the vehicle in question in the parking lot of Soldotna Creek Park.
The driver, 24-year-old Nathan McCord of Homer, was found to be operating the vehicle without a driver’s license. Officers also determined that McCord is currently on felony probation for vehicle theft in the first degree.
As Officers continued their investigation they discovered one of McCord’s two passengers was a teenager who had been reported missing in Homer. The teen was also in possession of marijuana.
“OCS was immediately involved and was notified of the location of that teenager,” said Soldotna Police Chief, Gene Meek. “Between OCS trying to get more information on the missing teen and the narcotics found in her lap during the traffic stop. She was arrested and transported over to the juvenile facility.”
McCord was ultimately placed under arrest for violating his conditions of probation, remanded to the Wildwood Pretrial Facility, and held with no bail. The juvenile passenger was placed under arrest for possession of Marijuana and transported to the Kenai Peninsula Youth Facility.
