Reformatted Salmon Run Series Takes To The Trails

Redesigned to incorporate a variety of area trails and courses, the 2020 Salmon Run Series held its opening event on Wednesday with around 60 total runners including competitors in a 5K event and a 1K kids run.

According to Tami Murray with the Kenai Watershed Forum, the event ” did a great job social distancing and wearing masks before the race and during the start.  We had two waves, starting 30-seconds apart.  Pods are groups of 25 with plenty of room to physical distance”.

The route for Salmon Series Race #1 utilized trails from the start at Lucy’s Market and River City Books to the finish at Kenai River Brewing.

The top time for the open 5-K event was recorded by Jason Parks at 16:21.  Incoming senior at SoHi Erika Arthur turned-in the fastest women’s time at 20:30.

Salmon Series Race #2 will begin and end at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex, scheduled for Wednesday, July 15th.
