The Region III Track & Field Championships, with both Division I and Division II track meets held concurrently, were contested at Palmer High School to determine Region III champions and to determine qualifiers to the upcoming ASAA Division II Track & Field Championships.
Girls Results
Kenai took home regional championships in girls discus and shot put (Emma Beck for both), 800m (Emilee Wilson), 4x100m (Malena Grieme, Sierra Hershberger, Sophie Tapley, and Emilee Wilson), 4x200m (Malena Grieme, Sierra Hershberger, Sophie Tapley, and Cara Graves), 3200m (Jayna Boonstra), and Triple Jump (Emilee Wilson). 2nd in 1600m by Jayna Boonstra. 3rd in 4x400m (Boonstra, Hershberger, Grace Kahn, and Cara Graves). Homer and Seward took 1st and 2nd in the 4x400m. Homer’s Leah Evans took 2nd and Kenai’s Emilee Wilson 3rd in long jump.
Boys Results
Kenai boys earned regional championships in the 100m and 200m (Reagan Graves). Homer’s Lukyan Dax taking 2nd in the 100, 200, and 400m races. Kenai’s Gregory Fallon won the 400m and 800m, Homer’s Seamus McDonough in second. McDonough finished first in the 1600m and 3200m. Kenai’s Ransom Hayes finished 3rd in the 300m hurdles. Reagan Graves, Ransom Hayes, Bobby Hayes, and Daniel McRorie from KCHS won the 4x100m and 4x200m championships. Nikiski finished 3rd in the 4x200m and Seward 3rd in the 4x100m. Homer’s Dax, Mershon, Seneff, and McDonough brought home the 4x400m championship, Kenai in 4th and Seward in 5th. Homer’s VanMeter, Badajos, Styvar, and Weisser won the 4x800m relay. Truit McCaughey won men’s shot put for Nikiski and Braedon Porter also brought home second for them. Kenai’s Adam Anglebrandt finished fourth. Anglebrandt finished second in discus, Vanbuskirk from Seward in third and Goodnight from Nikiski in fourth. Olin Lilijemark won Seward the men’s high jump championship, Thayne Quiner from Nikiski second, and Ransom Hayes from Kenai third. Walter Haybeck from Nikiski took second in long jump and Homer’s Lance Seneff and Joe Gordon second and third for triple.
