Region III Nordic Ski Championships Crown Champions: Skiers Ready For State

The 2020 Region III Nordic Ski Championships crowned the Palmer Moose girls and boys as team champions on the strength of individual #1 and #2 sweeps in both girls and boys freestyle and classic races.  The Soldotna boys placed second in the team scoring; the SoHi girls finished third in the girls team scoring.

 

Boys Combined Totals

Palmer’s Joseph Walling won the 5K Freestyle and placed second in the 7.5 Classic for the combined boys title.  Soldotna’s Bradley Walters topped the peninsula skiers finishing third overall in combined time followed by teammates Jack Harris in seventh and Quinn Cox in eighth.

Girls Combined Totals

Palmer’s Aila Berrigan placed second in the girls 5K Freestyle and first in the girls 5K Classic for the girls overall individual title.  Autumn Daigle of Homer placed third in the combined topping all Kenai Peninsula skiers; SoHi’s Erika Arthur finished seventh and Jordan Ruffner placed 10th in the combined total.

 

Boys 5K Freestyle

The Soldotna boys placed four skiers in the top ten in the 5K Freestyle event.  Bradley Walters placed third overall followed by Jack Harris in sixth, Quinn Cox in eighth and Foster Boze ninth.  Palmer’s Joseph Walling and Kai Taylor finish first and second in the 5K Freestyle.

Girls 5K Freestyle

Palmer’s Rosie Whittington-Evans and Aila Berrigan finish #1 and #2 in the girls 5K Freestyle.  Homer’s Autumn Daigle placed third, Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra placed fourth, Soldotna’s Katie Delker, Erika Arthur placed 7th and 9th, Kenai Leah Fallon placed 10th and SoHi’s Jordan Ruffner placed 11 th.

Boys 7.5K Classic

Walling and Taylor from Palmer again finished 1-2 in the 7.5K Classic event.  SoHi’s Bradley Walters placed fourth overall and teammates Jack Harris Quinn Cox and Ryder Geisler finished 7th, 8th, 10th.

Girls 5k Classic

Aila Berrigan and Rosie Whittington-Evans, both of Palmer finished in first and second in the girls 5K Classic.  SoHi’s Erika Arthur placed sixth, Kenai’s Jayna Boonstra finished seventh, SoHi’s Jordan Ruffner placed ninth.

ASAA First National Bank Nordic Ski State Championships

The 2020 ASAA First National Bank Nordic Ski State Championships are scheduled for February 20-22, 2020 at Kincaid Trails in Anchorage.
Qualifying Process: All schools that have Nordic ski programs are invited to send one boys team of six individuals and one girls team of six individuals. Schools can send less than a complete team if they wish. Team members are to be selected by the head coach with no specific ASAA qualifying criteria other than normal eligibility rules.
