Region III Swimming & Diving Championships Open Thursday

Swimmers and divers representing Region III schools from the Kenai Peninsula, Anchorage, the Valley and other South Central schools are set to compete in the 2018 Region III Swimming & Diving Championships scheduled for Thursday through Saturday at Homer High School.

 

The Kodiak Bears are the reigning team champions in both the girls and boys, winning the 2017 team titles at the regional competition in Palmer.  The SoHi girls tied for second in 2017; the Kenai boys finished third.

Girls competitions shall precede boys in each event:
200 Medley Relay

200 Freestyle Relay

100 Breaststroke
400 Freestyle Relay

 

Region competition determines state swimming and diving qualifiers.  State qualifiers will be determined and released by ASAA either late Sunday or early Monday and will be posted at asaa.org.

 

Qualifying Standards for ASAA State Swimming & Diving Championships

Individual Swimming Events: The first place finisher from each
conference qualifying meet is automatically qualified. each Conference’s
next top seven (7) swimmers will be considered for qualifications for the
next twelve best statewide times gaining qualification to the State Meet.
Relay Events: The first (1) place relay team from each conference
qualifying meet finals, plus the next four (4) fastest overall team times
statewide, for a total of eight (8) relay teams.

Diving Events: The top two (2) finishers from each conference qualifying
meet finals plus the next eight (8) best scores will qualify for a total of 16
divers.

Alternate/Substitution: In the event a qualified contestant is unable to
compete due to extenuating circumstances (illness, injury, and ineligibility),
it is the responsibility of the school of the indisposed contestant(s) to notify
ASAA, by the deadline on Wednesday Nov. 1 at 11:00 am. Once notified,
ASAA will invite the next athlete with the best qualifying time.
