The Region III Track and Field Championships, hosted at Houston High School, featured split competition with championships earned in both the 3A and 4A classifications. Team titles in the 4A division were claimed by the Soldotna Star girls and the Colony boys. The 3A team titles go to the Homer Mariner girls and ACS boys. State qualifiers to the Division I and Division II state championships are based on the Region III results.
Region III 4A Girls Meet Results
The Soldotna girls team displayed talent and depth throughout the variety of events at the Region III 4A track championships. The Star girls were favored on paper and performed even beyond with four individual championships, a pair of relay event victories and the depth to score 150 points to outscore Kenai (116) for the team title. Wasilla’s Olivia Davies earned four individual championships (100M, 200M, long jump, triple jump)
SoHi Highlights
Kellie Arthur held off the Kenai tandem of Jaycie Calvert and Brooke Satathite for the 800M run victory in a time four seconds faster than her personal best.
Brittany Taylor topped the field in the 400M and placed second in the 200M with a personal best time.
Ituau Tuisaula threw nearly 40′ to win the girls shot put (39′ 71/2″)
Emily Pieh won the girls discus with a toss of 121′ 3″
Erika Arthur raced to a second in the 3200M posting a time 20 seconds faster than at the borough championships.
Sophie Thomas earned a second in the 100M hurdles and and third in the 300M hurdles
Drysta Crosby-Schmeider raced to a third in the 400M
SoHi placed first in the 4X200M relay and 4X400M relay; SoHi added a second in the 4X800M relay.
SoHi placed four in the top five in both the shot put and high jump.
SoHi coach Phil Leck was named Region III Girls Coach of the Year
Kenai Highlights
Jaycie Calvert topped the field in the girls 1600M run and the girls 3200M run and placed second in the 800M run, just missing the three-event sweep in the distance events..
Brooke Satathite placed second in the 1600M and third in the 800M runs.
Hayley Maw recorded a pair of third place finishes in the 100M and 200M dash events.
Ithica Bergholtz placed third in the 3200M.
The Kardinal girls won the 4X100M relay and 4X800M relay, and placed second in the 4X200M relay.
Region III 4A Boys Meet Results
The Colony Knights dominated the team scoring with 159 points; SoHi and Kenai placed fourth and fifth in the team scoring.
SoHi Highlights
Brenner Furlong continued his dominance of the 400M with a region title in the 400M. Furlong raced to a victory in the 200M and added a second place in the 100M to produce the best day for a male sprinter.
Wensdell Tuisaula threw 46′ 71/2″ to win the boys shot put
SoHi placed secpond in the 4X200M relay.
Kenai Highlights
Jaret Wilson placed third in the 110M hurdles and second in the 300M hurdles.
Jake Grossl placed second in the discus.
Karl Danielson jumped to third in the triple jump.

Region III 3A Girls and Boys Results
The Homer girls raced to the 3A team title narrowly outpointing Grace Christian 110 to 103.33.
The ACS Boys lead the pack; Homer, third; Nikiski, fourth.
Seward’s Ruby Lindguist won the 800M, 1600M and 3200M runs and was named Female Athlete of the Meet.
Homer’s Abby Brock sweep the throws with wins in the shot put and discus.
Nikiski Region III Results
Nikiski boys win both the 4X100M relay and 4X200M relay.
Jack Sullenger finished second in the long jump and Aaron McCollum finished third in the triple jump.
Ian Johnson placed third in the shot put and second in the discus.
Kaitlyn Johnson took second in the girls discus and third in the shot put.
Bethany Carstens placed second in the girls high jump.
