After voting against her caucus, Eagle River Representative Lora Reinbold was stripped of most of her House Committee appointments.
Speaker Mike Chenault today detailed…
Speaker Chenault(R-Nikiski): “Rep. Herron will replace Representative Reinbold on the Rules Committee, Rep. Talerico will replace Rep. Reinbold on the Education Committee, Rep. Vasquez is the new Vice Chairman of the Education Committee, Rep. Millet will replace Rep. Reinbold on Leg Council, Rep. LeDoux will be the new Co-Chair of the Joint Armed Services Committee…”
And so it continued. Reinbold was left with only one committee assignment, Community and Regional Affairs, after she last week voted against the party-approved budget…
Rep. Reinbold(R-Eagle River): “The budget before us created greater than a $3 billion deficit. There are areas of the budget that we could have dramatically reduced. Some bold sub-committee cuts were unfortunately added back into the budget. This caused me to lose faith in the system.”
Speaker Chenault says Reinbold chose to leave the caucus by voting as she did. One of the requirements of being in the majority in the House or Senate is to vote with the caucus on the budget, in order to facilitate getting the budget passed.
Chenault insisted members have opportunities throughout the process to change what’s in the budget.
