The Alaska Department of Transportation’s closures of the Seward Highway south of Bird Creek continue tonight.
The one mile construction project from Mile 99-100 will close the highway from 9:30 pm – 10:30 pm tonight.
Shannon McCarthy with the DOT said that project will add a passing lane for northbound traffic.
McCarthy: “That project is moving along on schedule, we’ve mentioned it to you before that we’re closing it for an hour in the evenings[on Tuesdays and Thursdays], that will go on for the month of July and that one is set to conclude this season as well.”
Just four more days will be impacted by those closures this month: July 21, 23, 28, and 30.
That project will widen the current highway around 34-38 feet.
For all other weekdays, drivers should expect new traffic patterns with lane shifts, intermittent lane restrictions, flagging operations and minimal delays from 5:00 am to 3:00 pm.
