During the December 2 work sessions Representative Mike Chenault spoke with the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District School Board.
He said there was no particular unfinished business that would carry over from the last legislative session.
Chenault: “There was a number of pieces of legislation, some passed some didn’t, I’m sure they will be talk about funding, the legislature last year approved a three year forward funding of education, it wasn’t as much as the education community would liked to have seen but it was about a $100 million a year increase over what current spending is so that will take effect and we’ll see how that’s working with what the education folks think that they need.”
The Affordable Healthcare Act is a very popular topic with new mandates going into effect in less than a month and Rep. Chenault said he is sure that will be a legislative topic.
Chenault: “That’ll be a topic that we’re going to take up since the governor has made the statements that he is going to accept ACA and we’ll see what affect that has, at a state level naturally but also what affect it has at school districts and municipalities around the state because while they may agree or disagree with whether or not to enact ACA there’s going to be a cost associated with it.”
Chenault said other legislative members representing the Kenai could not make yesterday’s School Board meeting but have set another date in January before the legislative session begins on January 21.
