Representative Mike Chenault is running for re-election for House District 29, the Nikiski area, but he is unsure if he will run again for House Speaker.
Chenault knows he’s done the best he can for his community and will leave the rest up to the voters.
Chenault: “I’ve done a reasonable job for the folks I represent and if they believe that, then they’ll send me back.”
Looking forward, Chenault would like to focus a lot more on the education and economy of the Nikiski area, more than he has in the past.
Chenault: “I’ll continue working on legislation and will hopefully move a gas pipeline forward. I still have some interest in education and numerous other items. We’ll kind of look at that and decide which type of legislation we to deal with and maybe try to move some of that forward that I haven’t had the opportunity to do as the speaker.”
As for being House Speaker again, Chenault doesn’t intend to do so. He has been in the position for the past eight years and now wants to take time to focus on House District 29.
Chenault: “Never say never. It’s not my intention right now to run again as speaker. I’ll figure out what I might want to do, what other assignments I may want, and give someone else an opportunity to move the state forward.”
Representative Chenault will be on the ballot primary ballot tomorrow for House District 29, unopposed, and on the ballot again in the general election on Tuesday, November 8.
