Homer Representative Paul Seaton has pre-filed three bills for the upcoming legislative session that will convene on January 20.

Seaton said the first was the Marine and Aquatic Invasive Species Rapid response plans to help combat things like Elodea and Northern Pike that the Kenai Peninsula has seen.

Seaton: “Well one of the problems is when you have something you have to do, then you have to go through a long process of looking at it and finding what laws would be applicable, all of the things that might be interfering. That can take a couple years, by the time you get through all these things like EIS’s. If we can develop a rapid response plan under certain circumstances than that means we can get on it right away.”

That bill would also set up a fund if approved by legislature that could be used to respond quickly to invasive circumstances and that fund would receive funds allocated from the general fund.

The other two were known as the wellness committee bill and the benefit corporation bill.
