Bear activity seems to be on the rise on the Kenai Peninsula; however, seasonal movement of bears is common throughout the spring, summer and fall on the Kenai.

Selinger: “Bears are out moving around so you know pick up the garbage and the trash around the houses and minimize the potential of having a negative encounter with bears by being aware when you’re out in the woods. The Bears are going to be looking for fish as well, keep your property picked up and minimize attractants that might bring bears into a neighborhood. Keep your eyes up when you’re out there recreating.”

 

Selinger reminds fisherman that Bears will be out around popular fishing areas.

Selinger: “The Russian River isn’t as active as far as bear human interactions as it was at one time. I think a lot of that  is due to some of the mitigation procedures they followed with cleaning up some of the fish carcasses that were in the water out there, but it’s still an area where we get a congregation of people and a lot of fish and bears are after the resource as well.”
