Four returning track and field state champions from the 2017 season posted victories at the Homer dual track meet between Soldotna High School and Homer High School on Saturday at Homer High. The meet was the first for the SoHi track team; Homer had one meet in the Anchorage Dome earlier in the season.
The Homer-SoHi dual meet featured only nine events, both girls and boys, including three field events.
Homer-SoHi Dual: Boys Results
SoHi’s Brenner Furlong, the reigning 400M state champion in the 4A division, raced to a victory in both the 400M and 100M.
Wendall Tuisaula from SoHi, state discus champion in 2017, threw 120′ 05″ for the win followed by Galen Brantley III with a toss of 119′ 03″.
Two Stars surpassed the 40-foot mark in the boys triple jump: Jordan Spies, 42—05 1-2; Logan Schrader, 41—11.
Homer-SoHi Dual: Girls Results
The Homer girls recorded first-place finishes in 8 of 9 events in a display of depth in which no Mariner won more than one individual event.
Homer’s Anna Brock, 1-2-3A state discus champion in 2017, threw 111′ 10″ to hold off SoHi’s Emily Pieh (107’2″) in the girls’ discus.
Kaillee Veldstra, 1-2-3A champion in the 100M in 2017, raced to a win in the 100M.
Homer’s Kate Baring held-off SoHi’s Kellie Arthur ( who will sign with Colorado Mesa University on Monday) and Erika Arthur in the 1600M run.
The Stars will host Kodiak in a dual meet at SoHi on Friday, April 20th. The Mariners host the Homer Invitational on Saturday, April 21st.
