A string of Nikiski thefts have spurred a community meeting and one company affected is offering a reward.
Toni Dyer with Water Systems and Service Company said while drilling a well for a company in Nikiski they made a run to Anchorage. While away the company was monitoring the job site.
Dyer: “They had seen some tire prints and they assumed it was us come to check the equipment before we left but it was not us, sometime between then and Monday morning, these people came in they cut all the wires to my engine in my Kenworth that the drill rig is on, they stole my welding leads, the oxygen and acetylene tanks, the hose reel, plus the torch that we use, they took all my pipe wrenches, there was a huge craftsman tool box.”
Those are just some of the items stolen from the job site, as well as a variety of vehicles and equipment damaged.
She said the total cost of materials stolen is yet to be determined but she has effectively been shut down by it.
Dyer: “They shut me down, this is our busy time of year, this is when we’re trying to get the wells done so we don’t have to do it when it’s cold, not good.”
Her and her husband have offered a reward to anyone with information about the theft and can be contacted at 776-8066. A report was filed with the Alaska State Troopers.
A community meeting is being held next Wednesday, September 24, at 7 pm in the Nikiski Community Center, to address a slew of thefts in the area.
