Top Junior Division golfers from Anchorage, the Valley and the Kenai Peninsula competed in the 2017 Birch Ridge Junior Masters Golf Tournament, two days of competition at the Birch Ridge Golf Course in Soldotna.
Max Escobedo, age 16 from Wasilla, posted the best score of the two-day event carding a 161 with rounds of 77 and 84. Escobedo’s 77 was the lowest round of the tournament in any division.
Katelin Richards, who grew up on the Birch Ridge course and now lives in Anchorage, recorded a two-day total of 171, including a best round of 84. Katelin won the Open 13-15 age division. Anika Richards finished third in the 13-15 division, posting a first round, front nine score of 39.
In the Girls 14-18 Division, Danica Schmidt of Soldotna topped the division with a two-day score of 178. Local golfer Tait Cooper won the Girls 10-Under with a two, nine-hole round score of 110; Shane Sundberg shot an 80 with back-to-back scores of 40, capturing the Boys 10-12 division. Richie Lundahl, also a local golfer, won the Boys 7-9 Division with a two round total of 104.
