The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will close access to Swanson River Landing and Campground this week, but the temporary road work should be complete by this weekend.

Deputy Refuge Manager Steve Miller…

Miller: “This week on Wednesday we’re going to install a culvert about 100-200 yards before you get to Swanson River Landing, so that short stretch of the road is going to have to be closed but unfortunately that is just short of the campground there as well. So on Wednesday morning we’re going to be closing the road, installing that culvert and hopefully having it back open early in the afternoon on Thursday.”

He says this is in preparation for a bigger road project on Swanson River Road…

Miller: “We’re going to be putting a new layer of gravel along Swanson River Road and parts of Swan Lake Road. So we’re just getting ready for a larger project this summer and hopefully this won’t be too big of inconvenience for folks by doing it in the middle of the week.”

Miller says the re-graveling project is scheduled to begin the week of June 6.
