Interviews for the open Board of Fish seat are expected to wrap up today, with Governor Bill Walker to announce his nominee tomorrow.
Last night the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly, Robert Ruffner won the body’s support in his bid for the seat.
Assemblyman Brent Johnson said he’s hopeful Ruffner would bring a scientific-focus instead of buying into the comfish/sportfish argument…
Asm. Brent Johnson(Clam Gulch): “Actually, he’s a dip netter, so that’s another thing that makes it real interesting and kind of easy for a lot of people to get behind him: he doesn’t divide the big guide/commercial battle that’s typically gone on. I think he’s approachable by all sides.”
Walker’s first pick had been Kenai Peninsula drifter Roland Maw. We asked Walker if he’s likely to choose another Peninsula resident tomorrow…
Gov. Walker: “Coming up on a deadline on that as far as that option, so we’re looking at that and we’ll see.”
