Running Platforms for Mayoral Candidates Heard in Debate

During KSRM’s September 29 Mayoral Debate special, two of three candidates stated their platforms for running.

Mayoral challenger Carrol Martin…

Martin: “I’ve been trying to get everybody to listen, we are living on the largest, undeveloped piece of number one agricultural land left in the world and that is an asset that we need to protect, rather than destroy. And we can protect it with ag development and get wildfire protection because hay fields and pastures and potato fields don’t burn like these forests.”

Current Mayor Mike Navarre…

Mayor Navarre: “I have 18 years of experience, 12 in the legislature and 6 as Mayor in two different terms, I also have a lot of business experience, not just the last 15 years but prior to that, growing, owning a family business and being a very active participant in that and it actually dove tails well with the job as mayor because a lot of people say government should be run more like a business and the attitude that I’ve tried to bring to the job and instill in the folks that work for me and I’ve put a strong management team together at the borough and that is treat it like it’s your own money, how would you do it if you were doing it for yourself.”

The third candidate, Tom Bearup, had said he was not available for the debate.
