Running & Racing Events Fill Upcoming Weekend

The summer running and racing season will be on display with the annual Run for the River, the Tri the Kenai Triathlon and the Alaska Run for Women all on the schedule for the weekend of June 8th-9th.

 

Run for the River  Saturday, June 8th @ Soldotna Creek Park

The 2019 Run for the River event sponsored by the Kenai Watershed Forum and held in-conjunction with the annual Kenai River Festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 8th at the Soldotna Creek Park in Soldotna.

The event will include a 5-kilometer fun run and a 10-mile run, each will use gravel and paved trails on a multiple loop course.

Day of the event registration begins at 8 a.m. at Soldotna Creek Park and advance registration is available at www.kenaiwatershed.org.

Race Times:    10-mile event start 8:30 a.m.     5K event start 9:00 a.m.

Alaska Run for Women  Saturday, June 8th   Anchorage Football Stadium

The 27th Annual Alaska Run for Women is set for Saturday, June 8th with the Start/Finish at the Anchorage Football Stadium in Anchorage.  The event features festivities for family and friends before and after the race! Yoga warm-up, free Kaladi coffee, Great Harvest bread, snow cones, water and other beverages, music, Zumba workout, and the awards ceremony honoring elite runners and breast cancer survivor competitors.

Race Events:

  • 8:30 a.m. 1-mile run/walk start
  • 8:45 a.m. 5-mile run/walk timed start
  • 9:05 a.m. 5-mile run/walk untimed start
  • 9:20 a.m. 5-mile untimed party wave and strollers

Tri the Kenai Triathlon    Sunday, June 9th   Soldotna Middle School

The 2019 Tri the Kenai Triathlon, including swim, bike and run legs, is scheduled for Sunday, June 9th with the Start/Finish area at Skyview Middle School.

Registration for the event is closed; volunteers are still welcomed!

The event includes an adult sprint triathlon, adult intermediate triathlon, youth event and youth and adult relay team event.  The adult sprint race includes a 500 yard swim at the Skyview Pool, 10-mile road bike leg  and 3.1 mile run on the Tsalteshi Trails.

Event Time Schedule:

8 a.m.  Youth Event & Youth Relay Team

10 a.m.  Adult Relay Team & Adult Intermediate

10:30 a.m.  Adult Sprint Triathlon
