Rus Hitchcock Tournament Opens At Nikiski

The 34th Annual Rus Hitchcock Nikiski Tip-Off Basketball Tournament opened competition at Nikiski High School on Thursday and runs through Saturday, January 14th.

The tournament features round-robin basketball action with Nikiski hosting Homer, Kotzebue and Valdez basketball teams.

All games involving the Nikiski Bulldogs will be broadcast on ESPN 1140AM, 96.9FM and streamed live at radiokenai.com.

Valdez Girls 51 Nikiski 36

The Buccaneer girls opened an early 13-1 lead and owned a 27-15 advantage at the half, en route to  a 51-36 victory over the host Nikiski Bulldog girls.  Masen Holmes scored 27 points for Valdez; Shelby Burman topped the Bulldogs with eight points.

Valdez Boys 90 – Nikiski 48

The Valdez boys controlled play throughout against the Bulldogs leading 47-22 at the half on their way to a 90-48 opening round victory.  Valdez showed its depth in the line-up with the starters opening-up a wide margin and the bench players extending the lead.  Valdez’s Bryce Tucker lead all scorers with 23 points; Nikiski’s Braedon Porter scored 16.
