The Safe Routes to School Plan was adopted by the Soldotna City Council earlier this year.
Soldotna Planner John Czarneski said the council has already taken some steps to implement the high priority items.
Czarneski: “What they did is they basically funded for the upcoming fiscal year, is to fund two crosswalks that are proposed in the plan, one in front of Soldotna Elementary on parks street and the other one is over at redoubt elementary to put a new cross walk in at that location as well.”
For the Park Street crosswalk they are working to partner with ongoing construction of the Binkley Street Renovation Project for when that project takes out that existing stop light.
Czarneski: “And so we’ll continue to look at opportunities to implement the plan and fund projects and work with partners to try and get some of the objectives on the schedule.”
Czarneski said about this time next year they will bring forward the next priorities to be approved in the Safe Routes Plan.
