Sass Records Second Yukon Quest Victory

Brent Sass, of Eureka, lead his team through the finish chute in Fairbanks on Monday afternoon to claim the championship in the 2019 Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race and record his second victory in the  Yukon Quest.

 

Sass, 39, crossed the finish at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitor Center in downtown Fairbanks at 12:39 p.m. on Monday afternoon.  Sass finished the race with 14 dogs in harness recording a time of 9 days, 2 hours and 34 minutes.

The Yukon Quest began on February 2nd in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory.  Sass drew bib #3 and established an early lead and set the pace reaching the half-way point in Dawson first and collecting the purse of two ounces of gold, valued at $2, 623.  Sass won a total purse of about $21,770. of the $115,000 total prize money.
Sass recorded his second championship; Sass previously won in 2015.
