For the first time in 12-months, a Kenai Peninsula school traveled to the Mat-Su Valley for a conference basketball series and for the first time since March 2020, Nikiski faced a team from outside the peninsula. Yeah!
Aside from a cancellation due to covid mitigation on Friday and a 5.3 earthquake centered outside of the gym on Saturday; just your average two-day swing to the Valley.
Nikiski Girls 61 – Houston 41
Behind a 29-point effort from senior Lillian Carstens, the Nikiski girls recorded a Southcentral Conference 61-41 victory over the Houston Hawks in Houston on Saturday.
The Bulldogs controlled play through three quarters before allowing 24 points to the Hawks in the 4th quarter; still recording a 20-point victory.
Nikiski Boys 51 – Houston 79
The Bulldogs battle to within 10-points entering the fourth quarter 61-51; however, the Hawks pulled away in the final quarter for the 79-51 win. Drew Handley scored 17 points for Nikiski.
Homer Girls 21 – Seward 26
Homer and Seward girls struggled to find their offenses on Saturday. The game was tied at 7-7 at the half.
Homer Boys 61 – Seward 45
The Mariners boys offense was paced by three players in double-figures including River Mann with 19 points. Seward’s Max Pfiffenberger lead the Seahawks with 12 points.
