The Peninsula Conference crowned Grace Christian as the girls and boys champions on Friday night and in Kodiak, the Northern Lights Conference champions will be determined on Saturday.
The battles for the 2nd-Place automatic berths to the 3A ASAA State Basketball Championships from the Peninsula Conference and maneuvering at the NLC tournament for an at-large berth to the 4A ASAA State Basketball Championships fill Saturday’s basketball schedule for peninsula teams.
3A Peninsula Conference: 2nd Place Games (winner’s earn state berth)
Kenai Girls 46 – Seward 27
The Kardinal girls claim the second seed to the 3A state basketball championships with a commanding 46-27 win over Seward.
Kenai opened with a 13-5 first quarter lead and owned a 27-10 advantage at the half. Emma Beck scored 26 points for Kenai. Malerie Nunn added 10 points.
Kenai Boys 59 – Seward Boys 29
Kenai opened with a 17-0 first quarter and extended to a 31-12 halftime lead. the Kardinals were in control throughout and finished up 30 points for the 59-29 victory.
The Kenai boys earn a berth to the 3A state basketball championships; joining the Kenai girls. Wade James scored 16 points and Daniel McRorie added 14 points for Kenai.
4A Northern Lights Conference: 3rd & 4th Place games
At the NLC tournament in Kodiak, teams will compete for 3rd & 4th Place with the hopes of earning a 4A state tournament berth as an At-Large selection.
