The Kenai Peninsula Board of Education approved the collective bargaining agreement between the School District and its teachers and support staff unions Monday night.
District Spokeswoman Pegge Erkeneff says the biggest change for the contracts has to do with healthcare.
Erkeneff: “One of the areas that will be implemented after the first of the year is an option for a high deductible plan for our employees. So that’s something new and something that’s being explained to our employees. We’ve got meetings all over the peninsula for the next few weeks so people can understand what that means.”
In September when a tentative agreement was reached, both sides expressed great relief that the process, which began in February 2015, had finally come to a close. The three-year contract technically began July 1 of 2015 and covers through that date in 2018.
