The Kenai Peninsula Borough School Board unanimously confirmed a new member on Monday. John Kelly now holds the Board of Education’s District 9 seat which represents Homer, Nanwalek, Port Graham, Seldovia, and various Russian villages located on East End Road.

Kelly: “I’m honored to be chosen from the expansive field of candidates that we had to fill this spot. And I’m looking forward to working with all of the excellent employees of this district and these fine board members.”

He was the sole applicant for the seat that was left unoccupied after Seldovia’s Sunni Hilts retired following over a dozen years as that district’s representative.

Kelly has experience on various school site councils. On Monday he disclosed to the public a possible conflict of interest, stating that his wife is an employee at a school in Homer.
