The School Board held a budget work session Tuesday where they discussed the possibilities of reductions in administration and teacher positions in the local district.

Erkeneff: “Particularly the district office, we’ve looked at reductions in staff there and there’s the rise in PTR or pupil to teacher ratio. So these are some very real things that are coming up, I think one thing that we spent time really talking about is that our enrollment is slightly declined this year, so there would be reductions no matter what based on decreased enrollment in some of our schools.”
Due to the decline in enrollment, the district is considering a reductions of 12-13 teaching positions.
Erkeneff says up to nine positions in the district office are being considered but no specific jobs have been identified yet.
She says at this point they are planning for a $3.78 million deficit as they prepare to present their budget to the school board in January but that could change with Governor Bill Walker’s fiscal plan announcement tomorrow.
