As part of a study to help scientists understand how polar bears are responding to loss of sea ice, the U.S. Geological Survey has released a clip of video shot from the neck of a polar bear.
In April scientists placed cameras on four female polar bears roaming the Beaufort Sea ice north of Prudhoe Bay.
The study was led by research biologist Anthony Pagano who said in a release the information will help scientists understand the bears’ nutritional demands and energy expenditure in the context of less sea ice.
The clip shows a bear entering the icy ocean waters, trying to eat a frozen seal and interacting with a male.
