Alaska State Troopers received a notification of a possible missing person case at 7:49 p.m. on June 10th.
The missing woman, 48-year-old Christiana Watt of Ketchikan, is suspected to be in the Ward Lake area. Watt’s silver Range Rover vehicle was in the Ward Lake parking lot, with her cell phone, wallet, and ID inside. But Watt was nowhere to be found.
During the search, agencies participating included Ketchikan Volunteer Search and Rescue (KVRS), Southeast Alaska Dogs Organized for Ground Search (SEADOGS), Alaska State Troopers, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, and U.S. Forest Service Police.
According to Alaska Public Media, North Tongass fire chief Jerry Kiffer, who works with the volunteer rescue squad, says the teams worked until two or three a.m.
Watt was hours from being declared a missing person until her Apple Watch pinned a location, which confirmed that she or her Apple Watch was at Ward Lake around 12:30 that afternoon.
Search efforts are still underway on Tuesday. Troopers will continue to follow up on all leads.
At this time, Christiana’s disappearance is not considered suspicious. Anyone with contact or information regarding Christiana Watt must contact the Alaska State Troopers in Ketchikan at 907-225-5118 and reference incident AK24055622.
