The second borough hosted community meeting on the Alaska LNG Project focused mostly on the relocation of the Kenai Spur Highway.
Special Oil and Gas Assistant Larry Persily described why he thinks that was on everybody’s mind.
Persily: “It’s the most immediate thing because the road relocation would happen before the LNG plant construction starts. You look at a map and you look at people who have homes and property and trying to snake a highway through it, it’s going to affect a lot of people and they want to know when, which route, when are you going to start building it, it’s understandable that that is more of an immediate concern to many people.”
Persily said that there should be a plan agreed on and released to the public in 2016 for the Spur relocation project.
The public was also concerned about Exxon not signing the gas availability agreements.
“The amount of money that they’re spending, and I actually know a lot of the people with Exxon mobile as far as contractors working on behalf of Exxon mobile, they’re spending a lot of money and I really believe they’ll come through on all this.”
“Exxon, to not keep a tight ship, shows me that they’re either showing us their superiority or they’ve got an ulterior motive.”
The gas agreements signed by BP and ConocoPhillips were made public December 8th.
About 70 people attended the Thursday night meeting.
Persily went on to say there will be a 3rd meeting in January but a specific date has not been chosen at this time.
