Alaska is seeing a “beer boom” statewide, with new craft breweries and the popularity of these local brews have spurred events like Soldotna’s Frozen River Fest.

Melodie Allen with the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce says the second annual Frozen River Fest will take place on February 20.

Allen: “Frozen River Fest next Saturday. I don’t think the river’s frozen but we can still gather and have some beer. That’s going to be at the Soldotna Creek Park and a whole bunch of breweries are coming from Anchorage and all over the peninsula.”

The event will offer family fun with live music, bonfires, food vendors, and a variety of kids games.

Popular beers from Midnight Sun, Homer Brewing, and Kenai River Brewing will be offered to festival goers for just $25. For anyone not drinking, admission is free but requires ID. Children must be with a guardian or parent and are also free.

The event will take place just up the road from Kenai River Brewing’s new 7,000 square foot expansion which hopes to be opened by this May.
