Alaska State Troopers are investigating a motor vehicle collision that left one person dead at mile 69 of the Seward Highway near Turnagain Pass at 10:10 p.m. Monday night. The collision took place near the Turnagain Pass rest area.
46-year-old Jeffrey Andrews of Anchorage was killed when the sedan he was a passenger in crossed into the opposing lane at a high rate of speed and was struck by a motorhome. The three other individuals involved in the collision were transported to an Anchorage area medical facility with non-life-threatening injuries.
Girdwood Fire and Rescue responded to the accident at about 10:15 p.m. with three medical, one utility, and one rescue vehicle.
The accident partially closed the Seward Highway for ten hours as troopers investigated the scene and worked to get the highway cleared, according to the online trooper dispatch. The Seward Highway was fully reopened at approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning.
