Semi-Truck Leaves Seward Highway, Lands In Turnagain Arm

Girdwood Fire & Rescue responded to a semi-truck that had gone into Turnagain Arm on Tuesday, September 3rd, at 10:22 p.m.

 

Girdwood crews arrived at Milepost 83.5 of the Seward Highway to find a semi in Turnagan Arm with the driver in the cab in an area of the highway where the guardrail had been removed due to highway construction.

 

Weather conditions at the time of the accident included horizontal rain, windy conditions, and very poor driving visibility.

 

Rescue crews threw a rescue throwbag to the driver, who was pulled to shore with assistance from the crew.

 

One patient was transported to the hospital.

 

The Seward Highway was closed at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4th, to remove the semi-truck from Turnagain Arm. The highway was reopened at around 9:27 p.m.
